BMW S1000RR & S1000R – Servicing, Tuning & Performance Upgrades
Whether you’re chasing a dedicated track weapon or a spirited ride through the mountains, BMW has you covered with the S1000RR and S1000R. Both bikes deliver a serious punch, with the RR leaning into all-out performance and track focus, while the R keeps things raw, responsive, and ready for the road.
For 2024, BMW has refined and redesigned the S1000RR, sharpening its edge with increased performance, more track-oriented rider aids, and the addition of previously limited M-series performance components. With a lightweight aluminium chassis, forged aluminium swingarm, 850mm seat height, and a dry weight of just 201kg, it’s clear BMW built this bike to dominate.
At Platinum Motorcycles Melbourne, we love working on these models – whether it’s general servicing, ECU tuning, or full track conversions.

Suspension Setup
One of the most common issues we find with these bikes is suspension setup. Out of the box, they’re often over-sprung and harsh in the rear, which doesn’t suit the average rider. With the right adjustments and upgrades from our Platinum technicians, you’ll enjoy a ride that’s far more comfortable and responsive – especially through the twisties.
ECU Tuning
In our experience, the stock tune on these bikes is a familiar story with modern road machines. As emission controls tighten worldwide, manufacturers are forced to run fuel maps that are extremely lean at idle and in the low-to-mid range. The result? Snatchy throttle response, excess heat, and a noticeable loss of power where you want it most.
That’s where our custom dyno ECU tunes come in. We smooth out the fuelling, improve throttle response, and unlock the bike’s real potential. You’ll notice stronger mid-range power, cooler running temps on those scorching summer days, and a ride that feels sharper, smoother, and far more enjoyable – both on the road and the track.
BMW Service Intervals – Our Recommendation
BMW recommends a general service every 10,000 km and a major service every 30,000 km. From our experience, these intervals are too far apart for most riders, and can lead to expensive maintenance issues – often just after the warranty expires.
At Platinum Motorcycles, we recommend a general service every 5,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first. It’s the best way to keep your S1000RR or S1000R running at its peak and avoid costly surprises down the track.
