YAMAHA R1 2004 - 2019 & 2020+ PERFORMANCE UPGRADES AND SERVICING
The Yamaha R1 as well as the new 2020 + R1 ECU flash and tuning is now available here at Platinum Motorcycles Melbourne. We offer a wide range of R1 upgrades for not only the current model but also from 2004.
We also offer a wide range of suspension and service packages. The Yamaha R1 has by far been the leading superbike of its time. Although they are great from the factory they can lack in the fine tuning of the engine and suspension. They can run quite lean at idle and cruise which causes damage as well as overheating. They also can run rich at the high rpm which can cause carbon build up and washing the bores of oil. The throttle on most years needs some attention within the ECU and cannot be tuned using a piggyback fuel system such as a PowerCommander.
The suspension on all years lacks stability even for the road. At the least we recommend our stage 1 package. If you are on a budget we can do a basic setup of your existing components, just ask how we can help.

Dyno Tuning Packages
- STAGE 1 TUNE - A base full power reflash. Great for a road rider just wanting their bike remapped to run nice due to modifications, be smoother and more efficient . Dyno charts included. Priced from $850 pending year.
- STAGE 2 PERFORMANCE TUNE - This is a performance custom dyno tune. Focusing more on the fast or track day rider. We can modify all modes and settings available. Race performance parts also available for the R1 in many variations. Priced from $1,095 pending year.
Suspension Packages
- STAGE 1 SUSPENSION SETUP - Focusing on the fast road rider or occasional track rider. This package will get you stable and stops the bike from bottoming and the rear from harshness whilst grip is enhanced. It includes springs, valving components, oils, seals and shock dyno charts. Priced from $1,195 pending year.
- STAGE 2 SUSPENSION SET UP - Focusing on the racer. From club to national level we can tailor your package. This includes front drop in cartridges and a performance rear shock. All adjustable and race ready. Priced from $3,000 pending year.
Servicing Packages
- GENERAL SERVICE/ ANNUAL - The R1 is due for a general service every 10,000km or annually. At Platinum Motorcycles we recommend every 5,000km or annually for road use (whichever comes first) to ensure cost effective care. Priced from $375.
- 20,000KM SERVICE - General service along with replacement of brake fluids, coolant and spark plugs. Coolant and brake fluids only are required to be replaced every 2 years as a rule of thumb, or if needed earlier. Priced from $725.
- MAJOR SERVICE/ 40,000KM - As per 20,000km service along with engine valve clearances. Priced from $995. Suspension fluids are also recommended around this time.
